The second in a series of tea related posts follows the song ‘Everybody’s Free-Wear sunscreen’ by Baz Luhrmann (below)

The song is an amalgamation of songs but the speech touches  on a point that suddenly stung me. Causation theory came into play and the means came to me.

My aunt recently died having just been diagnosed with stage four cancer, her demise was the result of a fatal PET scan in India. The only person with her was my cousin, her eldest daughter, a dreamy 25-year old with real talents and no real business acumen (But that’s another story). She (late aunt and cousin BTW) lived with this other cousin of mine who is currently on a short visit which sadly follows his own survival of lymphoma BUT has since developed some lumps in his lungs.

This line:

Don’t worry about the future or worry that know that worrying, Is as affective as trying to solve an algebra equation, By chewing bubble gum, The real troubles in your life are apt to be things, That never crossed your worried mind, The kind that blindsides you at 4 p.m. on some idle Tuesday.

I am currently unemployed and pursuing a business, I need to start the income treakle fast and move out of my brother’s half way house which reminds me of a fridge in the suburbs (it is a cold spot in JOburg). The constant worry of being homeless (well technically) jobless (mainly income less) has had me sprouting pimples, being sleepy all day and feeling useless. I have had to fight bouts of depression and this only 8 weeks into this new move.

But this young man who is here hoping he does not have cancer (AGAIN) is thankful for another day because he has seen first hand what the treatment does and experience the burial of a relative who did not make it through a similar affliction. Suddenly my problems which are based on waking to work another day have no basis and seem like minor troubles passing by a stream compared to his.

a-pile-of-fresh-turmeric-rootsSo in an attempt to make the most of my ‘LIFE’ while I do not have the kind of troubles that blind side me at 4pm on a Tuesday afternoon, I am taking steps to just breath and enjoy. This is why I am drinking Turmeric tea.

Turmeric tea is a known detox with anti cancer properties. I am doing this while actively avoiding nuts which I have recently developed an allergy to and may be a problem I should in fact take seriously I mean, why at 32 should I develop a nut allergy…or have I always had it? who know

Turmeric tea

  1. 1 Teaspoon of Turmeric
  2. 1 Cup of water
  3. 2 spoons of honey (to taste)

Combine and bring to boil. It is ready when the colour changes to red.

Enjoy daily. (however IF you show signs of allergy, DO avoid it)
